Tennis Teams Hoard ITA Awards

HONOLULU, HI (May 6, 2013) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has released its 2013 NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Regional Awards. Men's and Women's Tennis Head Coaches, Hendrik Bode and Lauren Conching, were both named West Region Coach of the Year.

Members of the men's tennis team won three of the six awards. In addition to Bode, Petr Michnev won the Authur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award and Jaume Martinez-Vich won Rookie of the Year.

For Bode, it is his second West Region Coach of the Year in as many seasons. This year he guided the Sea Warriors to an 18-3 record, a national ranking of fifth, a PacWest Championship, and a berth in the NCAA Div. II National Championships.

Conching earned her first West Region Coach of the Year in just her second season as head coach. Her Sea Warriors went 19-2 and earned a national ranking of fourth. The Women's Tennis Team is also headed to the NCAA Div. II National Championships after being Grand Canyon in the regional playoff.

Michnev went 15-2 in singles, 17-4 in doubles and is ranked second nationally in singles and seventh in doubles. He has lived up to expectations after winning last year's ITA West Region Player to Watch Award.

Martinez-Vich burst onto the scene with singles record of 17-2 and a national ranking of 15th. In doubles he has been almost just as good with a 17-3 mark.
