Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, CA (February 20, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Softball Team (1-5, 1-5) dropped both games of a doubleheader against California Baptist (14-3, 7-1). The Sea Warriors dropped game one 2-1 and fell in game two 10-7.
The Lancers got on the board first with a run in the bottom half of the opening frame. HPU answered with an unearned run to tie the score in the top of the third, but the Lancers were able to score, what would end up being the game-winning run, in the bottom of the third to take game one 2-1.
HPU pitcher
Kristen Caskey was solid in game one spreading seven hits over six innings while allowing just two runs.
After a low scoring affair in game one, game two would turn out to be a shootout.
HPU took a 4-1 lead after the first inning and stretched it out to 6-1 after a two-RBI single from
Toni Baysa in the top of the third.
Cal Baptist fought its way back with four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings with one run in the fifth to earn the come-from-behind win, 10-7.
Freshman catcher
Kayla Sanchez had a big game two going 3-4 at the plate along with a run and two RBI. Baysa added two RBI of her own, while
Keila Elderts crossed the plate twice.
The two teams will turn around and play another doubleheader tomorrow at 3:00 p.m.
