Softball Swept by #22 Red Storm

Box Score St. George, UT (February 23, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Softball Team dropped the final two games of its mainland road trip against #22 Dixie State (12-3, 3-1) on Sunday afternoon. The Sea Warriors dropped game one 10-6 and fell in game two 10-2 after five innings.

The Red Storm jumped out to a big lead early in game one with nine runs in the first two innings. The Sea Warriors fought back by tallying three runs in the top of the fourth on a bases-clearing double from Chandell Dacosin.

HPU added a run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh, but the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Red Storm took game one 10-6.

It was the Sea Warriors who got on the board first in the game two when Kayla Sanchez crushed a two-run bomb to right center. DSU answered with two runs of their own to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning and two more in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead. Another run in the third and a five-run outburst in the fourth gave the Red Storm an eight run lead and ended the game after five innings.

Dacosin finished the day with four RBI and a 3-4 performance at the plate. Sanchez had a strong day as well, registering three RBI along with a run scored.

With the long road trip behind them, the Sea Warriors return to Oahu for an 18-game home stand beginning with BYU-Hawaii on March 1st. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Howard A. Okita Field.
