Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI (March 6, 2014)—The Hawai`i Pacific Softball Team (7-9, 7-9) swept a doubleheader against Holy Names (7-14, 3-5) on Thursday. HPU picked up the victory in game one 3-1 and emerged with up a mercy rule win 10-2 after five innings in game two.
HPU got off to a good start in game one, picking up a run in the second inning on a
Charisse Tanabe RBI double.
Sharae Esprecion opened the bottom of the third by hitting her second home second home run of the season to give the Sea Warriors a 2-0 lead.
The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the fifth when
Nicole Viena singled to left field, knocking in pinch runner
Kristy Washizaki.
The Red Hawks would load the bases and score a run in the seventh, but
Kristen Caskey ended the game with her sixth strike out to pick up the win.
In game two the Sea Warriors went up big in the first inning.
Esprecion opened with a triple and
Keila Elderts drew a walk before stealing second.
Kayla Sanchez put HPU on the board with a sacrifice fly and
Chandell Dacosin made it 2-0 with an RBI double. The big blow came three batters later when
Charisse Tanabe hit a bases-clearing triple to give the Sea Warriors a 5-0 lead.
The Red Hawks answered with two runs of their own in the top of the second to make it 5-2.
The would bust wide open when HPU scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth as Dacosin shut down the Red Hawks for the complete game, three-hit victory.
Tanabe had a big day at the plate by going 4-6 with four RBI and a run scored while Esprecion turned in a three-hit performance with two runs and an RBI.
The Sea Warriors return to action on Saturday for a doubleheader against Dominican at Howard A. Okita Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
