Box Score ST. GEORGE, UTAH. (October 10, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball team dropped its match with Dixie State University 25-22, 18-25, 28-26, 25-23 in a PacWest Conference matchup at the Red Storm's Student Activities Center.
The Sharks (11-6, 6-3 PacWest) were led by senior outside hitter
Elizabeth Culpepper's 24 kills and 18 digs, while junior
Pomai Recca added 17 kills and 14 digs. Setter
Tenika Wentworth notched 32 assists and senior defensive specialist
Amanda Moriarty helped keep the Sharks within striking distance throughout the contest with a match-high 34 digs. Freshman middle blocker
Carson Pyle collected nine kills on a blistering .600 hitting percentage to accompany four solo blocks.
Culpepper was red hot early on as, through the first two sets, she had already compiled 13 kills on .435 hitting.
"We played with good energy and did some amazing things, but ultimately, we made some hitting-decision errors that led to the two-to-three point losses," said HPU coach
Daryl Kapis. "We have to believe in our great abilities as a team and never doubt how great a team this is."
The Red Storm (8-8, 5-3) was led by Taylor Duryea's 15 kills. Dixie State's Alex Anderson added 32 digs as the home team moved to within a game of HPU in the PacWest standings.
Following its four-match road swing, HPU returns home on Oct. 16 to face Notre Dame De Namur University at 7 p.m. at St. Andrew's Priory.
