Box Score ELLENSBURG, Wash. (November 14, 2015)—Despite holding its opponent to just six fourth-quarter points, the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team could not find an offensive rhythm and fell 51-49 to host Central Washington University to wrap up the Central Washington Crossover.
Janessa Manzano led the Sharks with 11 points, while teammates
Breanna Mackenzie and
Brianne Yasukochi posted 10 points apiece. Manzano, a freshman guard from San Francisco, connected on all three of her 3-point attempts, while Mackenzie pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, fell behind 37-33 at halftime after allowing CWU to shoot 59.3 percent from the field. Manzano paced the visitors by scoring all 11 of her points in the opening half.
The Sharks (1-1), winners of last season's PacWest postseason tournament, did not lead at any point in the game and were outscored in the paint 26-14.
The Wildcats (2-0) were led by Jasmine Parker's game-high 21 points. Former Sharks skipper Jeff Harada currently serves as CWU's head coach.
HPU returns to Oahu on Nov. 17 to face Alaska Anchorage in its home opener at Moanalua High School at 4:30 p.m.
