Box Score HONOLULU (November 17, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team struggled to make shots and fell 62-51 to visiting Alaska Anchorage, the No. 7 team in the nation and top-ranked team in the Division II West Region, at Moanalua High School.
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, shot 34.1 percent from the field and was out-rebounded 43-32. Guard
Brianne Yasukochi led the home team with 16 points, nine of which came via free throws.
Jessi Reeves chipped in 13 points, while
Aminata Cole pulled down nine rebounds.
The Sharks (1-2), winners of last season's PacWest postseason tournament, had a difficult time containing Alaska's shooters as five of the visiting squad's players finished with double-figure scoring.
The Seawolves (8-0) received 14 points from Kiki Robertson, while Jenna Buchanan racked up seven points.
Alaska Anchorage established a 37-19 halftime lead after outscoring HPU 19-9 in the second quarter. The Sharks limited the Seawolves to 38.5 percent shooting from the field in the opening half, but converted just 26.1 percent of its field goal attempts during that span.
HPU returns to the hardwood on Nov. 21 to face Arizona Christian University as part of the BYU-Hawaii Invitational at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.
