Box Score LAIE, Hawaii (November 27, 2015)—Kiana Gandy drained a jumper as the game clock expired to propel Western Washington past the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team 64-62 at the Cannon Activities Center to wrap up the Oahu Thanksgiving Classic.
The Sharks (2-4) completed their non-conference schedule and were led by 19 points from
Brianne Yasukochi.
Breanna Mackenzie chipped in 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, and
Jessi Reeves racked up 12 points and four boards.
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, established a 33-26 halftime advantage thanks in part to Yasukochi's 11 points through two quarters. The Sharks shot a healthy 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the field in the first half and sank four treys in that span, including two from Jessica Manzano.
However, WWU outscored HPU 21-10 in the third quarter to erase the early deficit and relied on Gandy's clutch shot for the win. The visiting squad also relied on 21 points off turnovers and erased what was a 13-point first-half lead for HPU.
The Vikings (3-3) received a game-high 22 points from Gandy and completed a perfect trip to Oahu with two wins.
HPU tips off PacWest Conference action on Dec. 3 as the Sharks host Holy Names at 4:30 p.m. at Blaisdell Arena.
