Box Score HONOLULU (December 5, 2015)—The Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team was sparked by a 9-0 run to begin the second half and dominated the remainder of the contest en route to a 76-59 victory over Concordia University Irvine in a PacWest Conference clash at Blaisdell Arena.
The Sharks (4-4 overall, 2-0 PacWest) received a game-high 29 points from sophomore guard
Breanna Mackenzie, while
Cece Pearl patrolled the paint and notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Jessi Reeves and
Spencer Gray turned in five assists apiece as HPU remained undefeated in conference action.
Mackenzie led the Sharks offensively as the squad posted a 22-14 lead after one quarter thanks to the Aussie's nine points in the stanza. Concordia rebounded in the second frame and took its game inside to outscore HPU 21-13 and tie the game at 35 at intermission.
The Eagles (1-5, 0-2) allowed HPU to connect on three treys to begin the second half and could not catch up to the Sharks. Concordia was led by Brittany Stafford's 13 points.
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, outrebounded the opposition 49-30 and converted on 10 3-point buckets, five of which came off the hot hand of Mackenzie.
The Sharks enter an 11-day break before returning to action against cross-island conference foe BYU-Hawaii on Dec. 16 at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie. Opening tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.
