LA JOLLA, CA (March 13, 2015) – The second-ranked Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team (9-0) got a little revenge on top ranked West Florida (9-1) in a rematch of the 2014 Division II Championship match. HPU handed UWF its first loss of the season, 5-4, on a neutral court in Southern California.
Things looked bleak for HPU fans after doubles play as West Florida took all three matches.
However, HPU is a team that hangs its hat on its top shelf singles play. HPU newcomer
Marko Lenz moved to a perfect 9-0 on the season with a resounding win over the #8 player in Division II. Lenz, who should be ranked shortly, had no trouble with the 6-2, 6-1 win.
Jakub Hadrava posted an identical score in his win at fifth singles.
Clemens Graute coasted in the first set (6-1) but was challenged in the second, however the German native prevailed 7-5.
Thibaud Berland, ranked 11th, put HPU on the brink of victory with a 7-6, 6-4 win at second singles.
Jaume Martinez-Vich dramatically put the Sharks in the win column as he dumped the 30th ranked player 2-6, 6-1 and 7-5.
The Sharks return to the court tomorrow to play #17 UC San Diego.
