Box Score 2 KANEOHE, HI (March 18, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Softball Team (11-9) split a doubleheader with Faulkner University (11-5) on Wednesday at Howard A Okita Field. After losing the opener, 2-1, game two starter
Paige Crawford etcher her name in history by throwing a no-hitter in HPU's 3-0 win.
Shark ace
Kristen Caskey (5-3) was the hard-luck loser in game one. She gave up just two runs in seven innings while scattering eight hits and striking out five.
Unfortunately for HPU fans, Faulkner's Mattie Dotson was able to shut down the Shark offense until the seventh inning.
Down to their last at-bat and trailing 2-0, the Sharks got on the board when
Nicole Viena reached on a fielder's choice, driving in
Chelsea Cramer. Cramer had singled to start the HPU rally. There was no magic in game one, however, as the game ended with the tying run at first base.
Game two was a different story as the Sharks jumped out to a quick two-run lead in the first inning.
Noelani Boyer drove in the first run on a single to center field and was followed by
Kayla Sanchez's RBI fielder's choice. HPU almost broke the game wide open, the bases were full of Sharks when
Sienna Santiago sent a deep drive to right field but the would-be grand slam was just foul.
The extra runs didn't matter, Crawford was locked in.
HPU struck again in the sixth inning when Viena drove in a run on a fielder's choice, this time while dropping down a sac bunt.
The true story of the day was Crawford (4-4), who was dominant. In her seven innings she struck out seven batters and walked four. The visitors never put two runners on base in the same inning.
The Sharks now go on a long 16-game road trip that starts on Saturday (March 21st) with a doubleheader in Laie against BYU-Hawaii. First pitch on the North Shore is noon.
