Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, CA (March 21, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Baseball Team (12-7, 9-5) opened up its 15-game mainland road trip by dropping two games at California Baptist. CBU won 2-1 and 7-4.
Game one was an old fashion pitcher's duel, HPU sent ace
Rico Garcia to the bump and he did not disappoint, giving up just two runs while throwing a complete game. Â
However, CBU's Tyson Miller was also lights-out, giving up just one unearned run.
There was no score until the seventh inning when
James Carraway bunted in
Nolan Barraza, who had singled to start the inning. It the home half of the inning, CBU got a two RBI hit to take the lead. The Lancers didn't look back from there.
The Sharks rebounded by taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.
Chad Bolibol flew out to right field to drive in
Jordan Oshiro on the sacrifice fly.
CBU controlled the middle innings with two crooked numbers. The Lancers struck for two runs in the third and five in the fourth to make the score 7-1.
Bolibol also drove in HPU's second run in the eighth inning on a single to left center.
In the ninth inning, HPU almost completed the comeback. After two Sharks were plunked by pitches,
Tyler Tokunaga singled them both in. HPU then got the tying run to the plate but the magic ran out.
John Albert threw four shutout innings while
Brent Daugherty threw one.
Barraza had a big day with five hits in the double dip.
The two teams will play anther doubleheader on Monday (March 23nd).
