MANOA, HI (March 7, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team (5-0) ventured outside of the West Region of Division II for the first time this season on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Sharks came away with a 5-2 victory over Division I UM-Kansas City.
The Sharks swept doubles play to earn the doubles point, according to Division I rules. The second doubles team of
Maik Burlage and
Yann Renault doubled up their opponents 6-3.
Thibaud Berland and
Marko Lenz were not far behind with a 6-4 win. Although it didn't matter for the score,
Jakub Hadrava and
Jaume Martinez-Vich pulled out a close 7-5 victory at third doubles.
Burlage carried over his hot play to singles with a dominating 6-0, 6-1 win at the #3 position. Lenz and Renault each earned straight set victories to clinch the match for HPU. Berland lost the first set at second singles, but responded with 6-0 and 6-4 wins.
HPU returns to action on Monday when Cleveland State visits the UH Tennis Complex at 10:00 am.
