SURPRISE, AZ (April 18, 2015) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Tennis Team won the PacWest Championship for the third consecutive year, or every year that the league has sponsored the sport. The top ranked Sharks moved to 21-0 with an overpowering 5-0 win over #11 Azusa Pacific (20-4).
The Sharks won all three doubles matches with relative ease.
Maik Burlage and
Marko Lenz got HPU on the board first with an 8-3 win at second doubles.
Jaume Martinez-Vich and
Clemens Graute were close behind with an 8-2 victory. The fifth-ranked team of
Yann Renault and
Thibaud Berland earned another win over a ranked opponent with an 8-4 triumph over the #15 duo.
Martinez-Vich (#15) continued his strong weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles. Graute then added another trophy to HPU's collection by winning 6-2, 6-3 in the fifth position.
Berland was named the tournament MVP.
HPU now waits to play in the Division II National Championships May 14th-17th back in Surprise.
