Cece Pearl, the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team ran away with an 82-55 victory over local rival Chaminade.
The Sharks (11-7 overall, 8-3 PacWest) won their second straight game and leaned on Pearl, who made six-of-13 from the field including a team-high three treys.
Sophomore
Breanna Mackenzie, an Aussie who helped HPU celebrate Australia Day in style, racked up 14 points, four assists and three steals. Mackenzie has paced the Sharks offensively as of late, scoring 157 points over her last eight games; she is currently averaging north of 17 points per game on the season.
Fellow Australian
Jessi Reeves just missed out on a double-double after corralling a team-leading nine rebounds, dishing out five assists and notching 13 points in 21 minutes.
The Silverswords (4-11, 4-7) were led by Lilia Maio's 16 points and nine rebounds.
The Sharks took a 38-28 halftime lead thanks in part to 12 first-half points from Mackenzie, as well as eight points, including two treys, from
Janessa Manzano.
The white-clad Sharks used a 16-4 run to open the second quarter and established some breathing room after the 'Swords hit four treys early on.
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, hits the road for a five-game away stretch that kicks off with a tilt in Utah with Dixie State on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.
