Breanna Mackenzie continued her torrid scoring run with a game-high 19 points and helped the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team win its sixth consecutive game via a 59-45 victory over Notre Dame de Namur in a PacWest Conference matchup.
The Sharks (8-4 overall, 5-0 PacWest) leaned on Mackenzie, who connected on 7-of-16 shots from the field and made three of her six 3-point attempts in addition to corralling nine rebounds and dishing out three assists. Post player
Aminata Cole turned in a double-double effort with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while
Cece Pearl chipped in five points, six rebounds and three assists.
The Sharks trailed 14-13 after the first quarter, but rebounded with a 15-0 run to begin the second stanza and ended the opening half with a comfortable 32-20 lead. Mackenzie led the visiting squad with 14 points and five rebounds in the first half.
The Argonauts (1-12, 0-5) were led by Megan Crenshaw (16 points, eight rebounds) and Kirsten Liana (13 points, six rebounds).
HPU, which finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, wraps up its three-game California road stretch with a crucial conference matchup at Academy of Art, which is undefeated at 6-0 in PacWest play, on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m.
