HONOLULU (February 12, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team began the 2016 campaign with a clean sweep of visiting Sonoma State University, 9-0, at Ala Moana Park.
The Sharks (1-0) were led by sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland, who blanked Daniel Holz 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles slot. HPU's eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich defeated Blaine Mengert 6-2, 6-1 in the second singles spot.
Alexander Meyer,
Filip Dolezel,
Torben Otto and
Jakub Hadrava also notched wins in the singles competition.
In doubles action, Berland and Meyer teamed up to dispatch Mengert and Logan Liddell, 8-3. The Sharks also received doubles wins from Dolezel and Hadrava as well as Martinez Vich and Otto.
The Seawolves fell to 0-5 on the season.
The Sharks return to the court on Saturday to host UC San Diego at 4 p.m. at Kailua Racquet Club.
