KAILUA, Hawaii (February 13, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team swept visiting No. 21 UC San Diego 9-0 at Kailua Racquet Club to remain perfect on the young season.
The Sharks (2-0) were led by sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland, who came from behind to defeat 15
th-ranked Axel Bouillin 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles slot. HPU's eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich defeated Eric Tseng 6-4, 6-0 in the second singles spot.
Alexander Meyer,
Filip Dolezel,
Torben Otto and
Clemens Graute also notched wins in the singles competition.
In doubles action, Berland and Meyer teamed up to down Bouillin and Horea Porutiu, 8-5. The Sharks also received doubles wins from Dolezel and Hadrava (8-6) as well as Martinez Vich and Otto (8-2).
The Tritons fell to 4-3 with the loss.
The Sharks return to the court on Sunday to host UH Hilo at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex at 10 a.m. The HPU women's squad will also host the Vulcans at the same venue and time.
