Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (February 13, 2016) – The HPU softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader with visiting Saint Martin's (Wash.) University, losing the opener 5-1 and falling in the return match 6-5, in a non-conference meeting at Howard A. Okita Field.
 
The Sharks (2-4) received three hits from Dominique Walker and two base knocks each from Mari Kajiwara, Kayla Sanchez and Kiana Wolfe, but could not bring a run home in the bottom half of the seventh to extend or end the second game. HPU starter Paige Crawford (1-2) took the loss after surrendering six runs (four earned) on nine hits through 4 2/3 innings.
 
Saint Martin's was buoyed in the second half of the double dip by Corrie Wilson (four hits) and and Jackie Schmaeling, both of whom collected two RBI. Reliever Lauren Maley (3-0) got the win after taking over for starter Kim Nelson in the third inning and surrendering just two runs the rest of the way.
 
The Saints (9-1) leaned on ace pitcher Loryn Williams (3-0), who scattered nine hits and struck out four without allowing an earned run in the first game. Nelson, who played first base in the opening game, crushed a three-run homer in the first inning to give Saint Martin's a cushion, while Lauren Diuco, Taylor Wolf and Schmaeling each posted two hits.
 
Kristen Caskey (1-2) took the loss for HPU in the first matchup after surrendering five runs (four earned) and 10 hits. The Sharks could not take advantage of nine hits in the first tilt and left 10 runners on base. Kajiwara posted two hits, while Sanchez doubled.
 
The Sharks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a non-conference doubleheader against local PacWest foe Chaminade at 10 a.m. and noon at Howard A. Okita Field.
