Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (February 20, 2016) – The HPU softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Chaminade University via a 9-1 (6 inn.) win and 6-0 loss in a non-conference clash at Howard A. Okita Field.
In the mercy-rule shortened first game, HPU racked up 10 hits and received 4 RBI from junior third baseman
Kayla Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with a double. Teammate
Britney Stevens also posted two hits and doubled, while
Noelani Boyer provided the home team with some breathing room in the fourth frame via a two-run home run over the fence in left.
The Sharks (3-5) scored eight of their runs over the final three innings in support of victorious pitcher
Kristen Caskey (2-2). The hurler allowed six hits, but struck out eight and surrendered a lone run as the senior evened her season record.
The Sharks chased Chaminade's Chelsea Camello (1-2) in the opener after she gave up three runs on five hits in 3 1/3 innings.
The Silverswords (3-5) received two hits, including a double, from Keani Passi in the opener. In the return match, Jenn Betian led the way with three hits – two of which were doubles – and two RBI, while Kiana Ulufale homered and drove in two.
Chaminade pitcher Luana Moreno (2-2) notched the shutout in the second game by allowing just two hits and striking out six, while Sharks freshman
Alexis Morales (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on nine hits through 3 2/3 innings.
The Sharks return to action on March 1 for a Pac-West Conference doubleheader against Notre Dame de Namur at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Howard A. Okita Field.
