Box Score HONOLULU (February 27, 2016) – Ten different players scored, including five with double-figure efforts, as the Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team downed BYU-Hawaii 84-43 in the PacWest Conference regular-season finale at Moanalua High School.
The Sharks (17-10 overall, 14-6 PacWest) had already clinched fourth place in the conference and earned the fourth seed in the PacWest's six-team postseason tournament. HPU will face fifth-seeded Dominican in the first round on Thursday with game time still to be determined. The tourney runs March 3-5 in Irvine, Calif., and tickets are currently available at www.ThePacWest.com.
HPU received 16 points from
Breanna Mackenzie, while
Spencer Gray notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 assists to accompany a team-high 4 steals.
Aminata Cole also got in on the double-double party with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while
Cece Pearl (4 treys) and
Jessi Reeves scored 15 and 12 points in the post.
The squad's lone senior
Bronte Sheahan also turned in a memorable performance and tallied five points and seven rebounds.
Mackenzie, a sophomore from Australia, has paced the Sharks offensively as of late, scoring 329 points over her last 17 games. She is scoring 17.9 points per game on the season and also averages 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals per contest.
The Seasiders (11-14, 8-12) shot less than 27 percent from the field and received six points apiece from four different players.
HPU finished a program-best 25-5 last season and made it to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
