Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (February 6, 2016) – The HPU softball team split a doubleheader with visiting BYU-Hawaii, losing the opener 11-3 in six innings and bouncing back for a 6-2 victory in the second game of a non-conference matchup at Howard A. Okita Field.
 
The Sharks (2-2) received two-run homers from Gabriella Fordiani and Paige Crawford, while second baseman Mari Kajiwara doubled home two in the second frame to pace the home team's offensive output in the second game.
 
Crawford (1-1) helped her cause on the mound with two hits and earned the win after allowing eight hits and two runs in the seven-inning complete-game effort.
 
HPU got to BYU-Hawaii starter Meghan Wantz (1-2) early, scoring four runs in the first three innings. Wantz earned the victory in the day's first contest after allowing three runs and scattering four hits in the complete-game performance.
 
The Seasiders (1-3) ran away with the first game thanks in part to a six-run fifth inning to open things up. Anu Memea finished the game with a career-high seven RBI and hit a grand slam in the big inning to propel BYU-Hawaii to the lopsided victory.
 
Kristen Caskey (1-1) took the loss for HPU after surrendering 10 runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings. Kayla Sanchez cranked her second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the first inning, to buoy the home team's offensive attack in defeat.
 
The Sharks return to action on Sunday, Feb. 14 for a doubleheader against Saint Martin's (Wash.) University at noon and 2:30 p.m. at Howard A. Okita Field.
