Box Score 2 LAIE, Hawaii (March 26, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team swept a road doubleheader with BYU-Hawaii, claiming the opener 11-5 and winning the return matchup 3-0, in PacWest Conference action.
The Sharks (13-17, 9-9 PacWest) received a stellar shutout performance from starter
Kristen Caskey in the second game as the senior scattered six hits and struck out four.
Dominique Walker, a freshman catcher and designated player, continued her hot streak at the plate, and crushed a 2-run homer as part of HPU's four-run seventh inning of the first game. Walker has now hit safely in 14 of her last 15 games and leads the team with a .364 batting average.
HPU pitcher
Paige Crawford (5-6) notched the victory in the opener after scattering four hits and surrendering a lone earned run while striking out three in the complete-game effort. The Sharks were buoyed at the plate in the first game by
Noelani Boyer, who cranked a 3-run homer and drove in four, as well as
Kiana Wolfe, who doubled and drove in two.
Wolfe and
Britney Stevens went 2-for-3 in the return matchup, while Walker registered the game's lone RBI via a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
The Seasiders (9-21, 5-15) received three hits apiece on the day from Kalynn Latu and Lizabelle Talataina.
HPU continues its 14-game road swing with the Tournament of Champions, which gets underway on Friday, April 1 in Turlock, Calif.
