LA JOLLA, Calif. (March 5, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team defeated No. 16 UC San Diego 8-1 at Northview Courts as the Sharks remained perfect on the season. A day earlier, HPU knocked off No.1 Barry University, 5-0.
The Sharks (7-0) were led by sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland, who defeated No. 15 Axel Bouillin, 3-0, after his opponent retired due to injury in the No. 1 singles position. HPU's
Alexander Meyer a win over Eric Tseng in the No. 2 slot 6-2, 6-4.
Torben Otto,
Jakub Hadrava and
Filip Dolezel also notched wins in the singles competition for the Sharks.
In doubles action, HPU's tandem of Meyer and Berland teamed up to down UCSD's duo of Bouillin and Tseng, 8-4. The Sharks also received doubles wins from Dolezel and Jaume Martinez Vich (8-5) as well as Hadrava and Otto (8-2).
HPU now has nearly two weeks off before facing Metropolitan State University of Denver on March 18 in Colorado.
