Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (March 5, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team won both games of a doubleheader with visiting Holy Names University, 7-4 and 7-4, in a PacWest Conference clash at Howard A. Okita Field.
The Sharks (5-9, 2-2 PacWest) used a five-run sixth inning to notch the win in the first game, and ended a five-game losing streak in the process.
Noelani Boyer crushed a 3-run homer to left, while pitcher
Kristen Caskey and rightfielder
Kristy Washizaki each added two hits. The Sharks offense pounded out 10 hits and saddled HNU starter Kristina Carbajal (3-5) with the loss after the pitcher surrendered all 7 runs (3 earned) on 10 hits.
Caskey (3-4) picked up the win in the opener after allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 3. Sophomore
Alexa McCoin came on to finish the final 1 1/3 innings and earned her first save of the season.
In the return matchup, Sharks hurler
Paige Crawford (2-4) notched the complete-game victory despite surrendering 4 runs on 5 hits. HPU went ahead for good with a five-run fourth inning buoyed by Caskey's 3-run pinch-hit double, while
Sienna Santiago and Boyer chipped in two hits apiece.
The Hawks (4-14-1, 0-6) received 2 RBI apiece from Tailor Goods and Courtney Tarbat in the opener. Nicolette Soares drove in 3 runs in the return matchup, while hurler Vanessa Pulido (1-9) took the loss after allowing 7 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits.
The Sharks return to action on Sunday, March 6 for another PacWest Conference doubleheader against Holy Names at noon and 2:30 p.m. at Howard A. Okita Field.
