Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (March 6, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team claimed both games of a doubleheader with visiting Holy Names University, 10-4 and 6-2, to sweep a four-game PacWest Conference series at Howard A. Okita Field.
The Sharks (7-9, 4-2 PacWest) scored early and often, posting 10 runs over the first four frames to notch the win in the first game.
Nicole Viena tripled and drove in three runs, while teammates
Britney Stevens and
Sienna Santiago each collected two hits and 2 RBI. The Sharks offense pounded out 12 hits and saddled HNU starter Kristina Carbajal (3-6) with the loss after the pitcher surrendered 6 runs (5 earned) on 6 hits and 5 walks.
Caskey (4-4) picked up the win in the opener after allowing 3 runs on 4 hits before being relieved by sophomore
Alexa McCoin, who came on to finish the final 2 2/3 innings.
In the return matchup, Sharks hurler
Paige Crawford (3-4) notched the complete-game victory after surrendering just 2 runs while scattering 8 hits. HPU was buoyed offensively by
Kayla Sanchez, who doubled, tripled and drove in two as well as
Dominique Walker, who crushed a two-run homer to right-center field in the sixth inning.
The Hawks (4-16-1, 0-8) received 2 RBI from Geena Garabedian and three hits from Sharona Mataele in the opener. HNU pitcher Vanessa Pulido (1-10) took the loss in the second game after allowing 6 runs on 10 hits.
The Sharks take a day off before returning to action on Tuesday, March 8 for another PacWest Conference doubleheader against Dominican at 1 and 3:30 p.m. at Howard A. Okita Field. HPU then hosts Occidental College on Wednesday, March 9 in a doubleheader (10 a.m./12:30 p.m.) before hitting the road for a weekend series at Dixie State.
