Box Score 2 KANEOHE, Hawaii (March 9, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team split a doubleheader with visiting Occidental College, losing 3-2 and winning the return matchup 5-2, in a non-conference clash amid cool, windy conditions at Howard A. Okita Field.
In the second game, HPU scored three runs in the first inning to establish some early breathing room. Freshman catcher
Dominique Walker continued her hot hitting and posted two base knocks to extend her five-game hitting streak, while designated hitter
Nicole Viena tripled in two runs.
Sharks freshman pitcher
Alexis Morales (2-1) earned her second win in as many days after going the distance and scattering 7 hits while allowing 2 runs.
The Sharks (9-11, 5-3 PacWest) were doomed by missed opportunities in the first game, and stranded 10 runners on base.
Britney Stevens led the way at the dish for the home team, going 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher
Alexa McCoin (0-2) took the hard-luck loss for HPU after surrendering an unearned run in the sixth inning.
The Tigers (6-10) received two hits apiece from Mackensie Priley, Alex Battest and Stephanie Stamnes in the opener, while Battest added two more knocks in the return matchup to finish 10-for-15 over four games in Hawaii.
HPU hits the road for a weekend series at Dixie State including doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday (noon/2:30 p.m. both days).
