Box Score 2 TURLOCK, Calif. (April 1, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team dropped both its games on the first day of the Tournament of Champions, falling 7-2 to Stanislaus State and 6-3 to Chico State.
The Sharks (13-19) saw
Dominique Walker, a freshman catcher, outfielder and designated player, continue her hot streak at the plate and notch a single in the first game before adding another single in the return matchup. Walker has now hit safely in eight straight and 16 of her last 17 games, and leads the team with a .357 batting average.
Siena Santiago tripled and
Kayla Sanchez notched HPU's lone RBI in the opener.
HPU pitcher
Paige Crawford (5-7) was saddled with the loss in Game 1 after allowing seven runs on seven hits, including a tournament record-tying four home runs by the Warriors (18-16).
The Sharks received two hits apiece from outfielder
Kiana Wolfe and catcher
Carolann Toyama in the second game, while the backstop also drove in two. HPU hurler
Kristen Caskey (6-6) allowed all six runs, but just one was earned as Chico State (22-10) took advantage of five Sharks errors.
HPU continues its 14-game road swing with the Tournament of Champions, which runs through Sunday, April 3.
