SURPRISE, Ariz. (April 16, 2016) – The top-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team defeated No. 18 Azusa Pacific 5-1 in the final round of the PacWest Conference Championships at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Center this afternoon.
With the victory, the Sharks improved to 17-3 on the season and won their fourth consecutive league title.
Clemens Graute added to the HPU hardware haul and garnered Tournament MVP honors.
HPU's top-ranked doubles tandem of
Thibaud Berland and
Alexander Meyer defeated the team of Jan Meyer and Olger Van Gent, 8-4. The No. 1 duo is now 18-2 this season.
The Sharks team of
Jaume Martinez-Vich and
Filip Dolezel was also victorious via an 8-5 margin over Pascal Engel and Alan Leahy.
Filip Dolezel kept HPU's positive momentum going with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Engel and Sharks player
Torben Otto also notched a singles victory over Marnix Pluim 6-1, 6-1. Meyer, the 27
th-ranked singles player, took down Christian Schmid 6-2, 6-2 to secure the win for the Sharks with three matches unfinished.
The Sharks will now set their sights on the National Championships slated for May 16-21 in Denver, Colo.
