Box Score 2 WAIPIO, Hawaii (April 24, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team amassed 24 runs on 25 hits to sweep a road doubleheader with cross-town foe Chaminade, claiming the opener 10-2 (6 inn.) and winning the return matchup 14-2 (5 inn.), at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park.
The Sharks (16-30, 12-16 PacWest) pounded out 10 hits in the opener and were also treated to seven walks, six of which went to the power-hitting duo of
Kayla Sanchez and
Dominique Walker.
Mari Kajiwara went 3-for-3 with a double, while
Nicole Viena and
Noelani Boyer combined for three hits, two doubles and seven RBI in the first tilt.
HPU scored 12 runs on nine hits in the first inning of the rematch and batted around twice en route to building a comfortable advantage. Seven Sharks batters had at least two hits, including
Paige Crawford, Sanchez, Boyer and Walker who combined to drive in 11 runs throughout the second game alone.
Sharks senior hurler
Kristen Caskey (8-9) picked up the win in Game 1 after allowing one earned run on seven hits through the mercy-rule shortened complete game. Crawford (6-11) notched the win in the night cap as the senior hurler allowed two runs on three hits and struck out a pair in the complete-game effort.
The Silverswords (11-33, 6-22) received three hits in the opener from designated player Amber Manuel.
HPU is slated to conclude its season with a double dip at UH Hilo (April 30 at noon/2:30 p.m.). Saturday's rained-out doubleheader with Chaminade, which HPU will host, will also be made up at a date and time to be announced shortly.
