Box Score 2 HILO, Hawaii (April 30, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific softball team ended its season on the wrong end of a doubleheader sweep against interisland foe UH Hilo, dropping the opener 12-6 and falling in the return matchup 1-0.
The Sharks (16-32, 12-18 PacWest) were buoyed at the plate in the opener by a
Nicole Viena home run and two RBI apiece from
Kayla Sanchez and
Britney Stevens. Rico Toyama,
Alexis Morales and Stevens posted two hits each in Game 1.
Kristen Caskey (8-10) took the loss in the pitcher's circle after allowing nine runs on seven hits through 1 2/3 innings.
Sharks senior hurler
Paige Crawford (6-12) took the hard-luck loss in the night cap as she allowed a run on four hits and struck out three in the complete-game effort. In her final game in an HPU uniform, Crawford also led her squad with two hits at the plate.
The Vulcans (32-17, 21-9) were led offensively by Bailey Gaspar, who homered and drove in four runs to help break the first game open. Danielle Wilson (13-8) picked up the shutout victory in the finale and scattered five hits.
