PENSACOLA, Fla. (April 9, 2016) – The top-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team was bested by NAIA No. 1 Georgia Gwinnett College 5-3 as the Sharks continued their road swing in Florida at Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Tennis Complex.
The Sharks dropped to 14-2 on the campaign, while Georgia Gwinnett improved to 17-0.
HPU senior
Thibaud Berland continued his undefeated run in singles action and the top-ranked player in the country improved to 13-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jordan Cox. Berland is a two-time PacWest Player of the Week, and last season, was named ITA All-American and PacWest Newcomer of the Year.
Jakub Hadrava also secured a singles win for HPU and defeated Connor Clements 6-4, 6-2.
The top-ranked doubles tandem of Berland and
Alexander Meyer were victorious and posted an 8-4 triumph over Cox and Kevin Konfederak. The No. 1 duo is now 15-1 this season.
HPU's men continue to gear up for the PacWest Championships in Surprise, Ariz. The Sharks face Armstrong State University (April 10 at noon) before heading to the league tournament, which kicks off April 13.
