KAILUA, Hawai'i – No. 1 Hawai'i Pacific University got back on the winning track on Monday, as they ripped No. 30 Holy Names 8-1 in PacWest men's tennis action at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The Sharks (7-4) claimed wins in all but No. 6 singles over the Hawks (3-5).
HPU was paced by the play of Torbin Otto, ranked 34th in Division II in singles, who stepped to beat 23rd ranked Matthew Halligan 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Otto and teammate
Jack Lyttle also won at No. 2 doubles over Jonah Tahilan/Javier Luque 8-1.
The Sharks also got two wins from
Jakub Hadrava,
Filip Soban and
Juan Erro. Hadrava, moving up to No. 2 singles, beat Bernado Moraes 4-6, 7-5, 10-4, and teamed with Filip Dolzel to beat Halligan/Moraes 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Soban played up at No. 3 singles to beat Hugo Colpart 6-2, 6-4, with Erro moving up to No. 4 singles to beat Javier Luque 6-1, 6-1. Soban/Erro won at No. 3 doubles over Colpart/Ivan Parra 8-1.
HPU also won at No. 5 singles with Gerrard Andres Rodriguez beating Parra 6-4, 6-1.
Holy Names only point came when Tahilan beat
Adrian Elduque 6-2, 7-6.
The Sharks are in action again on Thursday when they host Hawai'i-Hilo at 11 a.m. at the Kailua Racquet Club.
