KAILUA, Hawai'i – The No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific University men chalked up another win on Thursday as they defeated California Lutheran 6-1 at the Kailua Racquet Club.
The Sharks (11-4) need two hours and 15 minutes to defeat the Kingsmen (3-12) using the Division I format where a standard set is played in doubles for an aggregate one point.
The Sharks won at all positions except No. 6 singles, and held out third ranked
Filip Dolezel from singles action.
Leading the way for the Sharks was
Torben Otto, the 10th ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Otto won at No. 1 singles over Dara Kashani 6-3, 6-1, and teamed with
Jack Lyttle at No. 2 doubles to beat Lucas Tilly/Andrew Tufenkian 6-1. Lyttle played up to No. 2 singles and defeated Tilly 6-1, 6-4.
Dolezel did play in the match, teaming with
Gerard Andres Rodriguez at No. 1 doubles to beat Kashani/Jake Haffner 6-4, while the No. 3 doubles team of
Filip Soban/
Juan Erro shutout Michael Sulahian/Austin Wong 6-0.
Rodriguez got the win at No. 3 singles against Haffner 6-1, 6-1, as Soban beat Sulahian 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 and Erro downed Wong 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5.
The lone win for the Kingsmen was at No. 6 singles, where Tufenkian beat HPU's
Aaron Machida 6-0, 6-1.
The Sharks are now off for a couple of weeks as they are not scheduled to play again until Saturday, April 8 when they meet 27th ranked BYU-Hawaii.
