SAN DIEGO -- No. 1 Hawai'i Pacific University avenged its only loss of the young season by beating No. 14 UC San Diego 8-1 on Saturday at the Northview Courts.

The Sharks (5-1) won all three of their matches on the Southern California trip and avenged an earlier 5-4 loss on Feb. 18 to the Titans (6-4).

After taking all three doubles points, the Sharks clinched the match when 34th ranked
Torben Otto won at No. 2 singles over Alexandre Miaule 7-5, 6-3 for the fifth point of the match.

Filip Dolezel won at No. 1 singles over No. 36 Eric Tseng 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while at No. 4
Filip Soban downed Marc Isaia 6-3, 4-6, and 15-13 in an extended tie breaker.
Juan Erro downed Marius Ruh 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, and
Jack Lyttle beat Rodrigo Amaral 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 6.

The sweep in doubles had Dolezel/
Jakub Hadrava beating Edvin/Larsson/Miaule 8-1 at No. 1, with Lyttle/Otto winning at No. 2 over Sreeganesh Manoharan/Tseng 8-6. The No. 3 doubles turned the match HPU's way as Erro/Soban outlasted Amaral/Justin Zhang 9-8 (7-5).

The only point not won by the Sharks was at No. 3 singles, with UCSD's Zhang beating Hadrava 6-3, 4-6, 12-10.

The Sharks travel east for their next competition as they face the NAIA's No. 1 team, Georgia Gwinnett, on Tuesday at 8 a.m. HST (1 p.m. EST).
