WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University opened the 2019 Dennis Rose Women's Invitational in 10th place following the first round at the Beach Course at the Waikoloa Resort on Monday.
HPU posted a team score of 349 to sit behind Saint Martin's at 323.
The Sharks were led in the opening round by junior
Hannah Brown of San Tan Valley, Ariz./Combs, who toured the par 70, 6002-yard Beach course in 6-over-par 76 to join a six-way tie for 13th.
Sophomore
Kaley Saludares of Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea, shot an 85, while junior
Kassidy Dunn of Berlin, Pa./Berlin Borthersvalley posted a 93, freshman
Victoria McQuay of Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run a 95 and freshman
Avery Weil of Colorado Springs, Colo./Maclaren added a 98.
Biola and Western Washington are tied for the lead after the first of three rounds, each totaling 303. Sonoma State and Concordia Portland are tied for third at 304, one stroke back.
Hawai'i Hilo's Kaelyn Uchida fired an even-par 70 to lead the tournament individually. Biola's Sami Penor is second at 1-over 71, with Chico State's Taylor Stewart third at 2-over 72.
The second round is set for Tuesday on the Beach Course. The Sharks start off at 7 a.m. with the first five tee groups, playing with Saint Martin's and the tournament's individual players.
