PORTLAND, Ore. – Sophomore
Kaley Saludares equaled the best round of the season on Tuesday as the Hawai'i Pacific University women concluded their trip to the Pacific Northwest in the final round of the Concordia Portland Invitational at the Riverside Country Club.
Saludares, a sophomore from Hilo, Hawai'i/Waiakea, toured the par 72, 5,995 yard Riverside course in 5-over-par 77 for a final total of 11-over 155 to tie for 13th, one stroke from the top 10.
As a team, the Sharks blew up to a 348 to finish 10th in the field at 685, seven strokes behind Saint Martin's at 678 in ninth.
Junior
Hannah Brown of San Tan Valley, Ariz./Combs, carded a 10-over 82 in the final round to finish 23rd with at 160. Freshman
Victoria McQuay of Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run shot a 91 in the final round, while junior
Kassidy Dunn of Berlin, Pa./Berlin Borthersvalley added a 98 as the two tied at 185. Freshman
Avery Weil of Colorado Springs, Colo./Maclaren completed the Sharks with a 106 for a 213 total.
The team winner was Simon Fraser that charted a 307 in the final round for a 607 team score to beat Western Washington at 617. Host Concordia Portland was third at 618, while Holy Names was fourth with a 628.
The individual champion needed an extra hole to take the title. Concordia Portland's Cammie Decker and Dominican's Claire Shubin tied at 5-over 149, but Decker won the playoff to take the title. CUP's Jae Park was third after a 1-over 73 in the final round for a 6-over 150.
The Sharks have one more event this fall when they visit the Big Island for Hawai'i Hilo's Dennis Rose Invitational Oct. 28-30. The women play on the Waikaloa Beach Course in Waikola.
