HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University moved up in both major Division II women's basketball polls this week.
The now 9-1 Sharks are ranked 14th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll, up from 20th last week. HPU is ranked 10th in the Division II Sports Information Directors' weekly poll, up from 13th a week ago. It's the third straight week that the Sharks are ranked in both polls.
The polls still have the same top two teams, but differ in their positions. Defending national champion Lubbock Christian (Texas) (9-0) is the top team in the D2SIDA poll, while Drury (Mo.) (8-0) is number one by five points in the WBCA poll. Drury has 13 first place votes in the WBCA poll, with LCU having 10. In the D2SIDA Poll, Lubbock Christian has 14 of the 16 first place votes with Drury getting the other two. Both polls have Grand Valley State (Mich.) third.
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (7-2) is 17th in the WBCA poll and is receiving votes in the D2SIDA poll.
The Sharks have one game before pausing for the holidays. On Friday, HPU welcomes Hope International to The Shark Tank for a contest that both teams will play as an exhibition. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m., following games in the Malika Sport Tours Hoop N Surf Classic.
