LINCOLN, Calif. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women are in 10th place after the first round of Holy Names Mikuni Sushi Shootout on Monday at the Catta Vedera Country Club.
The Sharks posted a team score of 343 in the open round to sit in 10th, eight strokes better than Cal State LA's 351 in 11th and 10 strokes behind Point Loma at 333 in ninth.
Cal State San Marcos leads the team event at 300, with Academy of Art second a stroke behind at 301 and Cal State Monterey Bay third at 308 in the 13 team event.
The Sharks are led by senior
Kaia Takaki from Honolulu/Kalani who carded an 84 on the par 72, 5,986-yard tournament layout at Catta Vedera. Senior
Mika Walker of Honolulu/Kaiser is a stroke behind Takaki at 85, with senior
Lexandra So of West Covina, Calif./West Covina at 86.
Senior Pranisa "Mint" Chimsuti of Pathumtani, Thailand/Satit Bilingual School posted an 88, while freshman
Misheel Sodgerel of St. Louis, Mo./Clayton turned in a 105 in her first collegiate tournament.
There is a tie atop the individual leaderboard after the first round as Jaime Jacob of Cal State San Marcos and Alli Kim of Point Loma fired even-par 72, with Savannah Magallon of CSUSM, Iveta Poslendi and Anahi Servin of ARTU tied for third one stroke back at 1-over-73.
The final round is set for Tuesday with a shotgun start at 7 a.m. HST (9 a.m. PST) at Catta Verdera. The Sharks will be paired with Point Loma, Cal State LA and a group of individuals.
