IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University junior
Elodie Busson has been named the PacWest Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her outstanding play last week.
Busson, a 5-5 junior from Poille Sur Vegre, France/Academy of Nantes, helped lead the No. 4 Sharks to a 2-1 week, with a 4-2 win over No. 5 Academy of Art and a 4-3 win at No. 22 UC San Diego, along with a 4-1 loss to No. 1 Barry (Fla.).
Busson won all three of her matches to go to 6-0 on the season, including 4-0 at the No. 1 position. She defeated seventh ranked Monika Stanikova of ARTU 6-1, 6-1, downed Barry's Zuza Maciejewska 6-3, 6-2, and took out UCSD's Ashley Chao 6-1, 6-4. Additionally won in doubles with
Elisa Elhadj at No. 1 against Chao and Becky Chou of UCSD 6-4.
She has since added a win over 43rd ranked Alicia Barbaroux of Tarleton State 6-1, 6-3.
HPU is now 5-2 on the season and is in the midst of a week of matches in San Antonio, where the face home town team No. 21 St. Mary's today (Tuesday), No. 10 Indianapolis Wednesday, and No. 8 West Florida Thursday.
Joining Busson with the weekly tennis recognition is Azusa Pacific's Jakob Schnaitter who earned PacWest Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
