IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University sophomore
Maxime Gayte has been named the PacWest Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his outstanding play last week.
Gayte, a 6-2 sophomore from Annecy, France/Baudelaire, helped lead the Sharks to four wins in five matches in San Antonio, with the lone loss to No. 1 Barry. Gayte won four of his singles matches, playing from positions 3 to 5, including the Sharks lone point against Barry when he beat Daniel Ventura 6-3, 6-4. He also won against the 11th ranked Chase Bartlett of St. Edward's 6-1, 6-4. In addition he took matches against No. 10 Southwest Baptist and No. 17 Midwestern State.
Gayte also teamed with Valentin Masse to win four sets at No. 1 doubles that helped HPU win points in all of those matches, including beating Midwestern's eighth ranked duo of Ben Westwick and Alberto Diaz 6-3.
Gayte is 7-2 on the season in singles and 6-3 in doubles on the season.
Joining Gayte with the weekly tennis recognition is Sonoma State's Jensyn Warren who earned PacWest Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
