WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University women remain eighth after the second round at the University of Hawai'i's 7th Annual Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Waikoloa Golf Resort Kings Course.
The Sharks posted a 331 on Friday to total 670 for the eighth spot in the eight team field as the only Division II entry in the field. The Sharks are behind Osaka Gakuin of Japan at 641 in seventh and Towson in sixth at 634.
Oklahoma State continues to lead after a round with a 299 for a 600 total, 12 strokes ahead of Utah Valley in second at 612 after a 298, the best team round so far in the tournament on Friday. Arkansas State is third at 613, with host Hawai'i fourth at 617 and Georgia Southern fifth at 630.
The Sharks were led in the second round by senior
Kaia Takaki from Honolulu/Kalani who shot a 9-over-par 81 on the par 72, 6,099-yard Kings Course for a 166 total. Senior Pranisa "Mint" Chimsuti of Pathumtani, Thailand/Satit Bilingual School slipped with an 83 on Friday, but still leads HPU for the tournament with a 162.
Senior
Mika Walker of Honolulu/Kaiser rebounded from the opening round to post a 10-over 82 on Friday for a 174 total. Sophomore
Marli Koba of Seattle/Garfield notched an 87 in the second round for a 171 total, while senior
Lexandra So of West Covina, Calif./West Covina added an 85 for a 176 total.
Utah Valley's Kaylee Shimizu fired a 2-under 70 in the second round for a 2-under 142 total to lead individually. She has a four stroke lead on Oklahoma State individual player Lianna Bailey who recorded an even-par 72 for a 2-over 146 for second. OSU's Han-Hsuan Yu is third after a 1-over 73 for a 3-over 147 total.
The final round of the tournament is Saturday with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. at the Waikoloa Resort's Kings Course. The Sharks tee off of holes 5 through 8, playing with Georgia Southern, Towson and Osaka Gakuin.
