WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University women finished with a final round 323, their best of the tournament, to place eighth at the University of Hawai'i's Seventh Annual Anuenue Spring Break Classic at the Waikoloa Golf Resort Kings Course.
The Sharks finished with a final score of 993 for the final position in the eight team field as the only Division II entry in the field. The Sharks placed behind Osaka Gakuin of Japan at 958 in seventh and Towson sixth at 940.
Oklahoma State won the event, leading wire-to-wire, posting a final round 285 for a 885 total,
with Arkansas State second at 911 and host Hawai'i shooting a final round 303 to move into third at 920. Utah Valley fell to fourth at 924 and Georgia Southern was fifth at 939.
The Sharks were led in the final round by senior
Kaia Takaki from Honolulu/Kalani who fired a 4-over-par 76 – her best of the tournament -- on the par 72, 6,099-yard Kings Course to finish with a 242. Senior Pranisa "Mint" Chimsuti of Pathumtani, Thailand/Satit Bilingual School shot her best round of the tournament with a 6-over 78 on Saturday, and finished with the Sharks best total of 240.
Senior
Mika Walker of Honolulu/Kaiser carded a final round 86 to finish at 260. Sophomore
Marli Koba of Seattle/Garfield posted an 86 for a 257, and senior
Lexandra So of West Covina, Calif./West Covina shot her best round of the tournament with an 83 for a final score of 259.
Utah Valley's Kaylee Shimizu fired a final round 2-over 74 to win the individual title with an even-par 216, one stroke better than Oklahoma State's Han-Hsuan Yu who had a 2-under 70 in the last round to finish second at 1-over 217. OSU's Michelle Forsland and OSU individual player Lianna Bailey tied for third at 6-over 222.
The Sharks return to action April 8-9 at the Sonoma State Spring Invitational at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club in Santa Rosa, Calif.
