TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis dropped to No. 6 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Tennis Rankings.
The Sharks, 10-3 on the season, fell after last Saturday's loss to then No. 22 Hawai'i Hilo and lands at No. 6 with a computer ranking of 56.39 to sit behind No. 5 Wingate (S.C.) with a 56.54 and ahead of Lander (S.C.) at 56.00 in seventh.
Barry (Fla.) remains No. 1 with a ranking of 89.37, with Columbus State (Ga.) second at 85.53 and Flagler (Fla.) at 65.61. West Florida is fourth at 57.54.
South Carolina Aiken is eighth with a ranking of 54.05, with Saint Leo (Fla.) falling to ninth with a 51.40 and Lynn (Fla.) at 10th with a 50.00.
In the PacWest, Hawai'i Hilo is 12th with a 46.17, Azusa Pacific 15th at 42.29 and Sonoma State 35th at 18.93.
In singles, junior Valentin Masse of Saint-Gaudens, France/BTS CNED fell to 23rd nationally with a computer rating of 15.39. Sophomore
Maxime Gayte of Annecy, France/Baudelaire is 38th with a rating of 10.90, and sophomore
Benjamin Loccisano of Duisburg, Germany/Staedtische Geamtschule Duisburg-Sued is ranked 69th with a 7.42 rating.
Masse and Gayte, the Sharks No. 1 doubles squad, is fell to seventh in the nation, with a rating of 25.29.
The Sharks are in Florida for the weekend before going to the PacWest Conference Tournament in Arizona next week. HPU meets No. 3 Flagler on Thursday, No. 9 Saint Leo on Friday and No. 37 Emory-Riddle on Saturday, all at Sanlando Park, the site of the NCAA Division II Championships in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
