LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University women posted a first round 344 for seventh after the opening round of the PacWest Conference Championships at the Wigwam Resort's Gold Course on Monday.
The Sharks struggled in the round played in the afternoon with tempuratures climbing into the 90s. HPU trails sixth place Dominican at 327 and fifth place Holy Names at 321.
No. 16 Academy of Art leads the team race posting a 12-over-par 300 on Monday, with Biola second, three strokes back at 303 and Point Loma third with a 306. Hawai'i Hilo is fourth at 319.
The Sharks were led by the play of senior
Lexandra So of West Covina, Calif./West Covina who carded an 83 on Monday. She is just ahead of senior
Kaia Takaki from Honolulu/Kalani who turned in an 84 and senior Pranisa "Mint" Chimsuti of Pathumtani, Thailand/Satit Bilingual School who recorded an 85. Senior
Mika Walker of Honolulu/Kaiser added a 92 as a counting score, while sophomore
Marli Koba of Seattle/Garfield tallied an even 100.
Biola's Sami Penor fired a 2-under 70 on the par 72, 5927-yard Gold Course women's layout. Point Loma's Alli Kim produced an even-par 72, with UH Hilo's Carli Shimokihara third at 1-over 73.
The Sharks will play the second round with Dominican, with tee times starting at 10 a.m. at the Wigwam Resort.
