INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 3 Hawai'i Pacific University was selected the number three seed in the 2019 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship starting next Tuesday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The Sharks (16-4) meet No. 50 Southern New Hampshire (17-3), the tournament's 14th seed, in the round of 16 next Tuesday at 10 a.m. HST (4 p.m. EDT).
The winner of the HPU/SNHU contest faces the winner of the match between No. 12 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) (18-2) and No. 27 Concordia (N.Y.) (18-3), the sixth and 11th seeds, in a quarterfinal match on next Wednesday at 10 a.m. HST (4 p.m. EDT). The national semifinals are Thursday, May 23, and the national championship Friday, May 24, both at 7 a.m. HST (1 p.m. EDT).
In Sweet 16 play on HPU's side of the bracket are No. 20 Midwestern State (Texas) (18-4) against No. 19 Indianapolis (17-5) in a 7/10 matchup and No. 1 Columbus State (Ga.) (25-2), the second seed, against No. 39 Mercyhurst (Pa.) (18-3), the 15th seed. The round of 16 matches on the HPU side of the bracket start at 10 a.m. HST (4 p.m. EDT) on Tuesday.
On the other side of the bracket No. 15 Hawai'i Hilo (13-4) got the fourth seed to face the 13th seed, No. 33 Bluefield State (W.Va.) (15-9). No. 2 Barry (Fla.) (21-0) earned the top seed and drew No. 30 Southern Arkansas, the 16th seed. No. 5 South Carolina-Aiken (18-3) got the fifth seed to take on 12th seeded No. 29 Drury (Mo.) (17-5), and No. 13 Cameron (Okla.) (16-3) battles No. 7 West Florida (22-6) in the 8/9 matchup. All four of the round of 16 matches start at 6 a.m. HST (Noon EDT). The quarterfinals are also Wednesday at 10 a.m. HST (4 p.m. EDT).
The Sharks, in their 17th NCAA Division II Tournament, are making their 17th appearance in the Sweet 16. HPU returned to the tournament in 2019 after missing the NCAAs in 2018, snapping a streak of 11 straight tournaments.
