INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 9 Hawai'i Pacific University was tabbed the number five seed in the 2019 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship starting next Wednesday at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
The Sharks (14-5) meet No. 19 St. Edward's (Texas) (18-5), the tournament's 12th seed, in the round of 16 Wednesday at 2 a.m. HST (8 a.m. EDT).
The winner of the HPU/St. Ed's contest faces the winner of the match between No. 5 Columbus State (Ga.) (24-4), the fourth seed, and 13th seeded West Virginia State (19-5) in a quarterfinal match on next Thursday at 3 a.m. HST (9 a.m. EDT). The national semifinals are Friday, May 24, and the national championship Saturday, May 25, both at 3 a.m. HST (9 a.m. EDT).
In Sweet 16 play on HPU's side of the bracket are No. 2 Barry (Fla.) (21-2), the top seed, against 16th seeded and No. 45 Charleston (W.Va.) (25-5), along with No. 7 Central Oklahoma (19-4) vs. No. 23 Azusa Pacific (15-8), in the 8/9 contest. These contests also start Wednesday at 2 a.m. HST (8 a.m. EDT).
In the opposite bracket, No. 1 Lynn (Fla.) (24-0) is the number three seed and takes on No. 28 Grand Valley State (Mich.), the number 14 seed. No. 12 North Georgia (21-5) meets No. 49 Queens (N.Y.) in a 6/11 matchup, with No. 14 Midwestern State (Texas), the seventh seed, playing 10th seeded and No. 24 Northwest Missouri State (19-6), and the second seed, No. 6 Indianapolis (Ind.) (22-0), facing 15th seeded Goldey-Beacom (Del.). Those round of 16 matches start at 6 a.m. (Noon EDT) on Thursday. All of the quarterfinal matches are Thursday at 3 a.m. HST (9 a.m. EDT).
The Sharks are in their 21st consecutive NCAA Division II Tournament, and now have advanced for their 13th appearance in the Sweet 16.
