Curry, Curran Head Sharks Selections on Softball All-PacWest Teams

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University senior Jordan Curry and sophomore Cienna Curran lead the Sharks selections on the 2019 All-PacWest Conference Softball Team announced on Tuesday by the conference office.
 
The duo were named First Team All-PacWest, with Curry chosen as one of the two pitchers on the first team, while Curran was tabbed one of the three outfielders on the squad.
 
Two more Sharks were selected by the conference coaches as Second Team All-PacWest Conference, junior Sierra Dias and freshman Noel Saunders.
 
The four led the Sharks to their first 30-win season since 2013, posting a 31-24 overall record. HPU recorded a 21-14 mark and a fifth place finish in the PacWest, the best since 2012.
 
Curry, the 6-0 senior righthander from Farmington, N.M./Farmington, was one of the top performers in the circle in the PacWest and Division II this season. With a 19-9 record, her 19 victories ranked second in the PacWest and is 31st nationally, while her seven shutouts was second in the conference and 19th nationally. Her 1.90 earned run average is third in the PacWest and 62nd nationally. She also had 105 strikeouts and one save.
 
Curran, the 5-7 sophomore centerfielder from Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/Campbell,, was repeats on the All-PacWest Team after being selected a second teamer in 2018. Curran recorded a .937 fielding percentage with two outfield assists. She hit .330 for the season with two home runs and 17 RBIs and ranked third in the PacWest with 20 stolen bases, swiping on all 20 of her stolen base attempts.
 
 
Dias, a 5-3 junior third baseman from Mililani, Hawai'i/Bishop Gorman, led the Sharks and ranked seventh in the Pac West with a .371 batting average. She led the PacWest and ranked 10th nationally with seven triples, and was rated fifth toughest to strikeout in the conference and 90th nationally. She was also third in the conference in hits with 56, third in the league in runs scored with 36. In addition Dias tallied 24 runs batted in and went 5-of-8 in stolen bases.
 
Saunders, the 5-2 freshman outfielder from Pearl City, Hawai'i/Pearl City, hit .315 for the season, but led the Sharks and ranked ninth in the conference with 28 RBIs. She ranked eighth in the conference with 30 runs scored and was sixth in the conference with 14 stolen bases (out of 16 attempts). Saunders hit two triples and a home run in her freshman season.
 
Biola's Kayla Neff was named the PacWest Player of the Year, while Concordia Irvine's Callie Nunes was once again selected the Pitcher of the Year. CUI's Mackenzie Graham and Biola's Missy Poti were voted the Co-Defensive Players of the Year, while Hawai'i Hilo's Rayla Jacobs-Kea was honored as Newcomer of the Year. CUI's Sydney Sprinkle was tabbed the Freshman of the Year. Crystal Rosenthal who led Concordia Irvine to the PacWest Conference Championship was selected Coach of the Year.
