DuPONT, Wash. – Hawai'i Pacific University newcomer
Ryan Torres is in a five-way tie for 18th as he led the Shark men on opening day for the 2019 fall golf season at the Saint Martin's Invitational at The Home Course.
Torres, a junior transfer from San Jose, Calif./Evergreen Valley via San Jose City College, fired a second round 2-under-par 70 on the par 72, 6,983-yard Home Course setup after touring the path in 1-over 73 in the first round. He's tied for 18th at 1-under 143, two strokes from the top 10.
Torres is one of 22 players under par on the leaderboard after the first round of action.
As a team, the Sharks are sitting 12th in the 14 team field, posting a first round 298 with a second round 292 for a two-round total of 590. Colorado Christian is 11th at 584, while the Sharks are 14 strokes better than Montana State Billings at 604 in 13th.
Simon Fraser is running away with the team race after an 18-under-par 270 as team in the second round. The Clan had a 2-under 286 in the first round for a 20-under 556 to lead by 16 strokes. Dixie State and host Saint Martin's are tied for second with a 4-under 572, a stroke ahead of a fourth place tie between Western Washington and British Columbia at 3-under 573.

Minsu Lee of San Jose, Calif./Willow Glen, fired a 3-over 147 with a 2-over 74 and 1-over 73 on the day. Freshman
Blake Mullen of Overland Park, Kan./Olathe East, posted a 77-74—151 and is tied with sophomore
Sirasit Prateepmongkol of Bangkok, Thailand/Ruamrudee International who delivered a 76-75 – 151. Sophomore
Keli'iokalani Kamelamela-Dudoit of Ho'olehua, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama collected a 75-79 – 154 to round out the scoring for HPU.
The tournament is tied at the top of the individual leaderboard by a pair of Canadians. SFU's Ryan Stolys fired a 6-under 66 in the second round to go with a 2-under 70 in the first for a 136. UBC's Ethan de Graff was solid with a pair of 4-under 68's for his 136 to lead the way. Hawai'i Hilo's Warren Miller is third, one stroke back at 7-under 137.
The final round of the tournament is Saturday, with a shotgun start at 5 a.m. HST (8 a.m. PDT) at The Home Course. HPU is paired with UH Hilo, Concordia Portland and Colorado Christian in the final round.
