Sharks Men Open At No. 9 In ITA Preseason Poll

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's tennis team starts the 2020 season ranked ninth in the Preseason Oracle/ITA Division II Men's Tennis Rankings administered by Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

The defending PacWest Conference Champion Sharks are coming off an 18-5 campaign in 2019 that saw them reach the NCAA Division II semifinals.

Defending national champion Barry (Fla.) is the top team gaining all eight first place votes. National runner-up Columbus State (Ga.), who defeated HPU in the semis last year, is second, with West Florida third.

The PacWest is well represented, with three top 10 teams. Azusa Pacific is tied for seventh, followed by HPU at nine and Hawai'i Hilo at 10.

The Sharks begin the 2020 season on Thursday by hosting Trinity (Texas), the 13th ranked team in Division III.
